End Of Life (EOL): SAILOR 6215 VHF DSC Class D and SAILOR 6216 VHF DSC Class D

Cobham Company announced the completion of production of radio stations SAILOR 6215 VHF DSC Class D and SAILOR 6216 VHF DSC Class D due to the mismatch of these models with new requirements.

The new rules are explained in ITU-R M.493-14 (09/2015) and the ETSI standard: EN301025 (v.2.2.1) of 2017-03.

12.7. Updating the position information
The DSC equipment shall receive reliable position information corresponding to the IEC 61162 standard, including the time of location, from an external source using the data transfer interface described in paragraph 12.6., In order to automatically update the position information of the vessel, on which the DSC equipment is installed.

Equipment DSC Class D and E should, and the equipment of DSC A and B classes can be supplied together with the built-in electronic position-finding device . In this case, the DSC equipment must automatically switch to an internal source if the external location information according to IEC 61162 is not reliable or unavailable. 

Since the radio stations SAILOR 6215   and SAILOR 6216 do not have a built-in GPS, their production ceases.

Cobham reports that
"The last units of the SAILOR 6215 VHF DSC Class D and the SAILOR 6216 HVC DSC Class D-FCC have been booked and will be shipped during September 2018.
The warranty and service will be processed using the normal product procedure under the Customer Protection Plan (CPP). "
